"...every
group that wishes to see conflicting interests resolved reasonably,
or is wise about the conditions under which it enjoys its own
freedom, must be profoundly concerned with the state of freedom of
speech and assembly, freedom of inquiry and teaching, freedom of
press and other forms of communication, freedom of cultural
opportunity and development. For in large measure intelligent
moral choice depends upon them."

Darwin's 'The Descent of Man'-- The best case yet for reparations
For about a decade the
reparations movement has picked up momentum.
The reasons behind it are
in the millions. Each American black man,
woman or child, who remains economically or socially
harmed by the long, inhumane practice of American slavery
and the century-plus of discrimination that followed it,
represents one of the reasons for reparations. If
you are not totally familiar with the racist nature of
Darwin's "The Descent of Man," read the
review
of that work on this site.
RANDALL ROBINSON, President of the
Transafrica Forum,
summarizes
the problem like this:
"The enslavement of blacks
in America lasted 246 years. It was followed by a
century of legal racial segregation and
discrimination. The two periods, taken together,
constitute the longest running crime against humanity
in the world over the last 500 years. Fifteen to
twenty-five million Africans were killed in the Middle
Passage alone.
"African social and
economic institutions were destroyed. Languages,
religions, customs were extinguished. Whole cultures
were lost. All memory of Africa's greatness in
antiquity, the source civilizations of Western
civilization, were stripped from the consciousness of
slavery's direct and derivative contemporary victims.
"As a result of the ravages
of slavery and the racial strictures that followed it,
blacks in America were consigned to this Nation's
economic bottom. A yawning gap was opened. It has been
a static gap since the Emancipation Proclamation. This
condition can no longer be tolerated. We're here today
to discuss this gap and the lasting social penalties
of slavery and how they might be addressed once and
for all."
While
the slavery issue does, on its own merits, carry a
lot of weight in the argument for reparations,
anti-reparation proponents are quick to counter it
with the fact that legal slavery ended in America
almost 150 years ago. Because there are no
American slave owners yet alive, there ought be no
financial remedy available to the descendants of
slaves, from the descendants of slave
owners. American jurisprudence tends
to give weight to that argument.
Regarding
the years that followed the Emancipation
Proclamation, Mr. Robinson has this to
say:
"[After the
Emancipation Proclamation, there was a } ...century
of government-embraced racial discrimination that
followed it, to the black men in prison, who in a
fairer society might have realized their fullest
potential, to the impoverished black mothers, too
often alone and hopeless beneath their burdens, to
black children, who all too frequently enter
school with not even a chance of long-term
success, these are the contemporary victims of
America's Holocaust."
I would certainly agree with
Mr. Robinson as to the on-going reality of racial
discrimination against black Americans during the
past 150 years. During the years that this
discourse developed, there have been some very
strong arguments presented to demonstrate the "government-embraced"
aspect to which Mr. Robinson alludes.
I think that there is yet
another very strong argument supporting direct
government involvement in the promotion of racial
discrimination. The branch of government
responsible for this on-going crime against black
Americans is the Department of Education, for it
is under its auspices that the nation's public
schools receive federal direction.
...And just what is the nature
of this on-going racist indoctrination propagated
in the public schools? It is the teaching of
out-dated and blatantly racist
Darwinism.
Virtually all scholars, even the
most loyal among the followers
of Darwin, admit that the man was a racist.
Therefore, they commonly explain this away with these
words: "Sure, Darwin was a racist. But
everyone was a racist during the middle and end of the
nineteenth century. He was just a product of his
times. Besides, Darwin was a staunch abolitionist;
and by such, any racist tendencies he might of have
otherwise have exhibited are
mitigated." There are no other
arguments made for Darwin's racism. It is just
accepted.
I
believe that these arguments do not hold
water. First of all, if a racist (such as
Darwin) is writing about origins, evolution, and
races, I have a real problem believing that this
racist man is going to be objective and
scholarly. ... And Darwin certainly
does not disappoint my skepticism. This is
what he writes in the second part of his massive
two-part work on origins and evolution:
"At
some future period (Darwin writes), not very
distant as measured by centuries, the civilized
races of man will almost certainly exterminate
and replace the savage races throughout the
world. At the same time the anthropomorphous
apes ... will no doubt be exterminated. The
break between man and his nearest Allies will
then be wider, for it will intervene between man
in a more civilized state, as we may hope, even
than the Caucasian, and some ape as low as the
baboon, instead of as now between the Negro or
Australian and the gorilla." (Charles Darwin, The Descent of Man 2nd ed (New York:
A. L. Burt Co., I 874), p. 178).
Now,
if Darwin were writing a cookbook, teaching me,
and our nation's children, what he believes to be
the best way to make an apple pie, I would have no
trouble with it--his being a racist would not much
alter my opinion of his program for combining
apples, sugar, nutmeg, water, cinnamon, flour and
heat. When eating a pie from his
directions, I might consider the source of the recipe,
but I doubt that it would much change my
appreciation for the taste of the
product.
However,
Darwin is not about apple pies. Darwin is about
the way American youth are trained to apprehend their
fellow man. In this case, the racist background of
an educator does matter.
The second argument used by Darwin
apologists to explain away his racism is based upon
Darwin's efforts in support of abolition. They
hold that no racist could be an abolitionist; therefore,
Darwin was not a "real" racist.
The mistake Darwin supporters make
here is that they confuse "anti-abolitionism" with
"racism." They are two very different
concepts. One can be an abolitionist and a
racist. ... And that is exactly what Darwin
was.
No
reasonable man refutes that Darwin was against
slavery. That is a given. There is
clear evidence of this. Darwin was an
abolitionist. He was, however, also a
raging racist. That also, is a
given. It is clear that Darwin did not
view the Aborigines or black peoples as fully
human, and he even predicted their eventual
extinction. To Darwin, such beings ranked
between Caucasians and "anthropomorphous apes;" in
other words, they were not fully human in the
finest sense of the term, at least not as fully
human as Caucasians [read Western Europeans].
The mistake Darwin's apologists make here is they
argue that simply because
Darwin did not wish to enslave groups of
human-like beings, that he was not a racist.
No such conclusion can be drawn. While
Darwin might never have owned a slave; and while,
if given the power, he most likely would have
freed all slaves; he still was a raging
racist.
This
is the proper way to view the thinking of
Darwin: Darwin viewed himself as a "beneficent
zoo keeper," not a plantation
owner.
And that is where the elite American educational establishment is today.
Whether the members of that establishment know it
or not, they are racists of the same ilk as
Darwin. It is the members of this
group, under the behest of the federal government,
who are
responsible for the ongoing racial problems that today exist
throughout America and the whole of western
civilization.
They get up on their soap boxes and preach
tolerance, while at the same time striving to
suppress black peoples through their flat-earth
Darwinian evolution. They may not
wish to own slaves, but they sure do not mind
playing the part of beneficent zoo
keepers.
I
have no patience with such blatant disregard for
honesty. How can we continue to support the educational
establishment that has been built around Darwin's
racist theory of evolution?
If a person takes the
time to think this thing through, and if he still
continues to tolerate this travesty, then there
are only two things that can be going on in his
head: 1--that person must actually believe black
peoples and Aborigines inherently represent
something less than do white people; or, 2--that
person is not engaging his brain to reality.
I believe
that at
some future period, not very distant as measured
by months and years, African-Americans will
almost certainly rise up against
the public school system in this country, for it
clearly propagates pure racist teachings, teachings which are
totally at odds with those held by the real
scientific community. When this
happens, when African-Americans fully exercise
their power against the system that for the past 70 years
has taught
white (and black) children that it was white destiny to be the beneficent zoo keepers overseeing
and controlling every aspect of the existence of
the lesser beings known as African-Americans;
then we will find out what reparations are
really all about. There will be hell (and
more) to
pay when it is finally demonstrated to all that
while white Americans may
no longer run plantations, they still feel it
their god-given right to maintain their "
Darwinian zoos."
I declare that there ought not ever to have been
zoos for people. I declare that Darwin was
wrong -- that Caucasians are not superior to the
black peoples of the world. I declare that
from the days of John Dewey to the present time,
American education is patently racist.
...And any one who espouses Darwin's theory of
evolution, is patently racist, defacto
racist (if he is naive), dishonest, or
stupid--take your pick. I do not care how
well the zoo keeper treats those under his charge, I do not believe that any
people should be regarded or treated like second-class
human beings.
I
declare that while it was a good thing to end
slavery, the time has now come to close out the
beneficent zoo-keeper era as well. Now is
the time to put an end to Darwin's racism in
America. Now is the time to boot the racist
Darweenies out of our educational system --
for good. It is time for a
"seed" change in education in America.
We need to encourage a new crop of
teachers, -- new teachers, ones who are not
corrupted with old thinking. When this
happens it will produce a sea change. The longer
this archaic, idiotic racist notion of Darwin is
propagated, the longer it will be before racial healing
can take place.
I
have no doubt in my mind that over the course of
the next 25 years this nation will pay through the
nose for 70 years of this beneficent zoo-keeper
mentality. There is already a strong
movement in the African-American community seeking
reparations, and rightly so. So far the provocateurs
of this endeavor have rooted their rhetoric in the
slavery issue. I think that this
beneficent zoo-keeper teaching of Darwin, that
rules in our public schools to this very hours, provides a much
stronger case in support of that effort.
Because it is contemporary, it represents a far
better argument than the 150-year-old slavery
issue. "Zoo-keeper racism" is
going on right now in every school in this
nation. It must be stopped, and the
reparations movement might be the only way to
accomplish it.

We are convinced that the
teachings of Darwin, particularly Darwin's teachings on evolution,
and Darwin's theories on origins, ought not be taught as fact.
Darwin and Darwin's theories are not generally accepted by
contemporary physicists and cosmologists, and, therefore, Darwin and
Darwin's theories ought not be accepted whole-cloth by our schools
of education, and ought not be presented as fact in public schools.
Because Richard Dawkins has set
himself up as the number one defender of Darwin and Darwin's theory
of evolution, we will go to some length explaining Dawkins' Darwin
defenses, and we will do our best to explode Dawkins' Darwin
defenses.
We seek to show from Darwin's own

We further seek to show that
Darwin's theory of evolution is not scientific. We show that
racism, more than science, was behind Darwin and Darwin's theory of
evolution, and Darwin's theory of origins.

empowered, and the influence of teachers' unions ought to be limited
to labor-related issues. Teachers' unions should have no
